While working with students who strive to become fluent readers and speakers of English, I became frustrated in my search for books and reading materials that were appropriate for my learners.  I looked extensively for books my students could access.  Though there are many, MANY books out there, I could never find texts and materials that combined high interest content with accessible and understandable text.  I became discouraged while my students sat stoic in my classroom—disengaged with reading and frustrated with the difficult content they were expected to learn in classrooms.  Since my student population was mainly 4th-8th graders, I discovered finding suitable books to be particularly challenging.  Teens and tweens have a lot going on both socially and emotionally.  I wanted to find interesting but readable texts for these older learners who are trying to play catch up with their peers.  In particular, it broke my heart to see my struggling students go to the library and check out thick chapter books to carry around but never read.  Meanwhile, my lower level ESOL students could only successfully read picture books for little children.  Understandably, they resisted reading.  In order to fill this gap, I decided to write my own books.  My books provide engaging content for middle grade elementary students and middle school students, with dual readability levels to address the different reading needs of students.  Check them out!!!
